PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence-based Lenoss Medical, Inc. has reached a significant milestone for its OsteoPearl® biological allograft implant, surpassing 500 procedures using the technology.
The company announced that more than half of those procedures have taken place within the past 12 months, reflecting growing adoption of the implant among hospitals and physicians.
OsteoPearl is a biological allograft implant made from 100% cortical bone and designed to provide a scaffold for the ongrowth and/or ingrowth of newly formed bone. The technology is used in the repair of vertebral compression fractures (VCFs), which commonly occur in people with osteoporosis.
The implant provides a biological alternative to polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement, which has traditionally been used in procedures to stabilize vertebral compression fractures.
“We are excited by the adoption taking place in the marketplace, particularly over the course of the last 12 months, as the number of hospitals and physicians using the OsteoPearl® implant continues to expand,” said Dom Messerli, CEO and founder of Lenoss Medical. “It is exciting to see the continued impact that the OsteoPearl® implant is having on patient care.”
Lenoss Medical develops technologies focused on the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. The company says the increasing use of OsteoPearl represents an important step in expanding access to a biological approach to fracture repair.
